Ordu University Fatsa Faculty of Marine Sciences (ODU-FFMS) was established in 2006. As the leading partner, it has a Marine Science Faculty (a member of IAMU) with experts in the fields of marine ecology, biology, fisheries, aquaculture, marine pollution, maritime and port management, and navigation. Therefore, the multi-dimensional nature of this Faculty personnel covers the whole scope of the project in terms of competence. Further, this partner has conducted several studies and projects on the occurrence and distribution of microplastics in marine ecosystems and marine organisms. Also, several BS and MS theses related the microplastic pollution in the Black Sea have been completed by the students of Ordu University. Ordu University personnel have completed or been continuing 28 international projects (supported by EU, IAMU, the Rufford Foundation, Erasmus, and Erasmus +) both as a partner and a leader besides hundreds of national (TÜBİTAK (both large and small scale projects) and DOKA and some other national funding foundations and organizations) and institutional projects. Finally, this institution is currently a partner for another EU project (Black Sea SIERRA) investigating various types of marine pollution in coastal regions, lagoons, and indicator species.
